I grew up in the bush landscapes of the Atherton Tableland and Herberton. With my brother and sisters, I would walkabout on the reddish-brown soil, collecting small berries. They were an absolute delight.

I also loved bunya nuts and bush passion fruit. Sometimes we would visit the settlement and the Herberton range, and there was other bush fruit available including what we call bush plums and chinky apples. Herberton to me was a place of fruitful land.
