Gathering fruit when we went on walkabout was a special childhood experience. It was fun not only for me but for my brother and sisters too. I remember the small bluish black berries in particular. We’d have to pick so many just to get a handful that we couldn’t get enough of them.

 

We’d also gather bush passion fruit, gooseberries and blackberries. Though not painted here, small “cheeky” apples, peaches and burdekin plums were also favourites.
