Close to the Cairns CBD is the Cairns Trinity Inlet which is great for crabbing and fishing. Larger tides bring in more crabs because the scent of the bait travels further but the mudcrabs can be found all year round. They love to live in mangroves, mudflats and sheltered estuaries. The mangroves thrive in a mixture of salt and freshwater. We see a dense tangle of roots, a maze loved by the mudcrabs. I love to walkabout on the Cairns Esplanade and explore the mangroves when the tides are out.
