This is a colour painting of a mud crab in water. It is an invertebrate and spends a lot of its time out of the water, lumbering along, carrying its heavy shell. The large, greenish mud crab is found in the northern mangrove regions of Australia. Some mud crabs are brown or black. The mud crab is well known for its size and is considered a delicacy.  Mud crabs are sometimes called mangrove crabs.
