Rainforest shields are the largest in Australia and made from the buttress of a native fig tree which is only found in the tropical rainforests of Far North Queensland. These large shields with bold geometric designs enabled a unique art to evolve amongst the rainforest people over thousands of years. I have interpreted these traditional designs with contemporary motifs from the tropical rainforest to produce a unique set of limited edition lino prints.
 
The shields were the canvas of my people. The large fig trees were only found here and, combined with the isolation of the rainforest, it has meant this style is not found anywhere else in Australia.
