I grew up in Wondecla near Ravenshoe in north Queensland and we lived in the rainforest. We would draw water from a nearby well as we had no running water. We would use this well for drinking and cooking. Mum would also put some in a large tin basin for us to use for bathing. Sometimes we’d just have a swim in the creek to freshen up. I loved living off the land.

This painting uses browns and earthy colours to denote the land and blue to symbolize the water. Wells were places we could collect the underground water and sometimes one well with join with another.
